Custom & Specialty Prop Building
Do you build custom props for theater productions?
Yes. We design and build custom theatrical props, specialty stage props, large-scale props, fantasy props, and production-specific pieces.
If your script calls for something unusual, impossible to find, or too specific to rent, we can work with you to develop a practical solution for the stage.

What information do you need for a custom prop?
To prepare an estimate or discuss a project, it is helpful to know:
-
What the prop is
-
How it will be used on stage
-
Approximate size
-
Whether actors need to carry, sit on, move, open, or interact with it
-
Production dates
-
Your budget range, if known
-
Reference images or sketches
This information helps determine the best materials, construction method, durability requirements, and timeline.

Can you build props from a drawing, photo, or inspiration image?
Yes. Reference images, sketches, production renderings, and inspiration photos are extremely helpful.
We can work from your materials to develop a prop that fits the practical needs of your production. The final design may need to consider scale, safety, durability, weight, actor interaction, transportation, storage, and stage visibility.
What kinds of materials do you use to build props?
The materials depend on the project.
Custom props may incorporate EVA foam, insulation foam, wood, fabric, plastics, sculpting materials, molded and cast elements, lightweight structures, LEDs, hardware, and theatrical finishes.
The goal is to choose materials that make sense for how the prop will be used, moved, stored, and transported.
How long does it take to build a custom prop?
Every project is different.
The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the prop, materials, finishing requirements, number of pieces, and current production schedule.
Simple projects may require only a short turnaround, while large or highly detailed specialty props may require several weeks or longer.
If you have a deadline, contact us as early as possible.
Can you design a custom prop that can later be rented to other productions?
Potentially, yes.
For certain projects, we are interested in creating specialty props that can become part of our rental inventory after their first production. This can be a good option for productions that need an unusual piece but would prefer a collaborative approach to developing it. Each project would need to be evaluated individually based on design, future rental potential, budget, and production requirements.

Can you build props for musicals?
Yes. We can build specialty and custom props for musicals, plays, children's theater, school productions, and other live performances.
If you are looking for a difficult-to-find prop for a specific musical, contact us with the production name, reference material, and performance dates.
